“Sound To Sea” trip for 7th grade students

In October, 2019 the 7th grade students will be going to Sound to Sea-Trinity Center in Pine Knoll Shores (Outer Banks), North Carolina.  This is an awesome opportunity for the students to learn firsthand about several habitats located at Sound to Sea.  We’ll explore the pond using small nets to catch various living organisms and then identify them with magnifying glasses.  We will venture into the salt marsh to learn about detritus and it’s nutrients/benefits to various plants and animals.  Next, will be exploring the Sound where we wear wader boots, walk through the water and fish for sea life.  The kids typically find sea squirts, crabs, shrimp, oysters and clams.  Then we are off to the ocean to learn about tidal zones and the root system of the plants on the beach.  We will also dissect sea life – a squid!  It’s an interesting creature with so many visible parts.  The students will also have a great time working together on the challenge course and participating in various team building activities. We have personally been on this trip and it is an awesome educational opportunity!!  Additional information may also be found on the Sound to Sea website. (
