“Sound To Sea” trip for 7th grade students
In October, 2019 the 7th grade students will be going to Sound to Sea-Trinity Center in Pine Knoll Shores (Outer Banks), North Carolina. This is an awesome opportunity for the students to learn firsthand about several habitats located at Sound to Sea. We’ll explore the pond using small nets to catch various living organisms and then identify them with magnifying glasses. We will venture into the salt marsh to learn about detritus and it’s nutrients/benefits to various plants and animals. Next, will be exploring the Sound where we wear wader boots, walk through the water and fish for sea life. The kids typically find sea squirts, crabs, shrimp, oysters and clams. Then we are off to the ocean to learn about tidal zones and the root system of the plants on the beach. We will also dissect sea life – a squid! It’s an interesting creature with so many visible parts. The students will also have a great time working together on the challenge course and participating in various team building activities. Trip Date: October 23-25, 2019
Trip Fee: $350.00 per student & per chaperone. The fee includes transportation via charter buses, 7 meals & snacks, accommodations and 8 classes & activities at Sound to Sea. The students will be staying in cabins/duplexes, 12 kids per duplex along with teachers and chaperones.

Step 1. Commitment Form & Initial Non-Refundable Deposit ($125.00) Due: Wednesday, April 17, 2019.

We encourage you to be prompt in submitting your child’s Commitment Form and deposits due to the limited number of spaces (beds) at Sound to Sea. Therefore, reservations/deposits will be accepted on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis. The preferred method of payment is online on the school homepage. Checks will also be accepted. Please make them payable to Lakeshore Middle School. Deposits and the Commitment Form may be turned in to the office to the attention of Mrs. Wells, LMS Bookkeeper.
And yes…we need parent chaperones to accompany the students. This is your chance to be a marine biologist, an environmentalist or a scientist and join in on the fun! Medication Authorization For Overnight Field Trips ~ This form is required if your student will be bringing ANY medication (over-the-counter OR prescription) on the trip. The form MUST be signed by a doctor AND a parent.
